BEETEES Motueka to close - closing down sale now on!

Beetees Motueka will be closing its doors for good at the end of February after nearly 10 year’s operating on High Street.

The women’s fashion retail outlet was begun in Motueka nine years ago by Lorraine and Glen Beattie after the purchase of what was then the H&J Smiths store.

Four years ago they also opened up a Nelson store, which is set to be the last remaining Beetees outlet come February 28th.

“We haven’t made the decision lightly,” Glen says.

“While the business is currently viable, retailing in general is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly over the winter months”.

“November, December and January have been good, but not as good as previous years. “

Along with a slower summer season, Glen suffered from an unexpected health scare near Christmas time which led to both Glen and Lorraine re-evaluating their commitment needed to operate both the Nelson and Motueka businesses.

With the decision to close the Motueka store, they will now focus their time and energy towards the Trafalgar Street store in Nelson which has proven to be successful since  there shift from Bridge Street in November .

Along with the store’s closure, Flo Taylor, who has worked alongside Lorraine since Beetees Motueka opened, has also made the decision to go into a well-deserved semi-retirement.

“The decision has not been an easy one,” Glen says.

“We have enjoyed our association with our customers from around the region, particularly the large number who have become Beetees card holders over that time, and wish to sincerely thank everyone for their support over the last nine years.”
